Cheap Kids Toys - Good Parenting And Developmental Toys

Good parents choose good toddler toys. Children has certain developmental needs that no amount of parental affection and attention can fulfill. Being natural learners, children are constantly seeking new experiences in their everyday lives. Parents cannot always have the time to attend and play  with their children. Likewise, parents cannot always be around to assume the ride on toys role nor good enough to pretend as a building brick.

But the lack of quality time to spend with your kids does not make you less of a good parent specially if you know the right kind of toy to give your child. First and foremost consideration when buying toys is the age of your child. Toys for kids are designed for particular age brackets in order to assist children develop certain skills and talents. Toys that require cooperation as well as sharing and social skills are also good choices.

The following criteria for selecting toys will help you choose the right toy for your children.

  • Toys that promote use of imagination and critical thinking among kids.
  • Toys that pose a positive challenge for them. Children should be exposed to toys and games that requires them to finish a task that once completed will give them a sense of accomplishment.
  • Toys that give enjoyable experience and make them learn to love what they are learning.

The criteria recognizes the fact that the best toddler toy is this that allows children to learn while playing. Learning while playing enhances physical and mental growth. Although there are other factors such as gender that comes into play when buying toys for children, the criteria mentioned above  remains the general rule.

The criteria cited were collated and deemed as very helpful by child psychologists as well as early childhood education professionals. There is however another school of thought on choosing the right toy that parents might find very helpful. According to this theory, toy choices are largely formed by gender socialization. The group of sociologists who conducted the study claims that given boys prefer stereotypically male toys with wheels such as a toy car or wagon while girls prefer stereotypically female toys such as a koala bear and dolls.

The right choice of toys plays a crucial role during the formative years of a child. At this stage in their lives, they learn the basic skills necessary to live up to the challenges that they may be exposed to later in their lives. There is no other time to learn these skills than at the onset of the learning process which is during the toddler years. Children need to develop their language skills, mathematical, and creativity while their curiosity is at its peak.

Toddler toys like simple wooden toys, wood building blocks, puzzles, and soft books that are interactive are good for children who are just beginning to learn hand to eye coordination. As kids get older, their toys must reciprocate their developmental needs in order to keep pace with the learning process. Becoming a good parent starts with learning to choose the right toy.
