Toddler toy - Tips on Ensuring Toddler Toys Safety
Almost all kinds of toys will be able to fascinate small kids, but it is the adults’ responsibilities to ensure that not only are these toys fun, but most importantly they’re safe. Small children have no regard or concept of their own safety yet, so it our responsibility to safeguard their well-being.
Here are some practical tips that you can follow to ensure that your chosen toddler toys will be both enjoyable and safe for your kids.
- Make sure that the toys do not have any sharp edges and points. Carefully inspect the toys to make sure that edges and points are blunt, and when dealing with wooden toys, make sure that they are smooth enough so they would not cause splinters.
- Watch out for small toy parts. Small children have the tendency to put whatever they can get their hands on in their mouths, so it is absolutely important that their toys will not be a choking hazard. First off, make sure that the toy itself is big enough that it won’t fit into the mouth. Steer clear from kid toys that have easily detachable parts. If for instance, you are buying a doll for your kids, make sure that buttons are not easily pulled out, as well as other parts that can be detached.
- Ensure that the toddler toys do not easily shatter. Now, you may be a bit hesitant to drop the toys deliberately, however keep in mind that your child will definitely give his toys a fair amount of banging. Try dropping the toy from a height and see if it does not fall apart.
- Make sure that the Toddler Cubes are non-toxic. How many times have we heard about major toy recalls because of dangerous paints? Labels are put on toys for a reason, so remember to check the box for the phrases “lead-free” or “non-toxic”.
- Avoid toys that emit loud noises. Loud noises from toys can damage your child’s hearing, so as much as possible test a toy for the level of noise it generates before handing it over to your toddler and especially avoid toys that emit a continuous tone. The usual noisy culprits are toy guns, as well as talking toys. If your child is given these toys as a gift, it is always a good practice to teach them not to place such toys near the ears.
- Ensure that their toys are not strangulation or suffocation hazards. Do not give your kids toys that can cover their whole heads, or toys that have strings which can be looped around the neck.
- Always supervise toddlers when they’re playing with toys with wheels. One of the most common toy-related accidents involve small children wanting to zoom away in toy cars, which leads them to step on it. A lot of times the kids flip over, and while in many cases they just bawl from being caught off-guard, sometimes this can lead to serious injury.
Following the said tips will not only ensure that you have peace of mind that your toddler is safe, but will make his playtime fun and hassle-free as well.
