Toddler Toys - Tips in Choosing the Right Toys for Toddlers

From ages one to three years old, children begin to learn about their environment, and they need their parents to equip them with skills that will aid them in bridging their imagination to reality.

Parents need to help enhance a toddler’s development by giving the child the right toys like Toddler Educational Toys. Kids’ toys are called educational toys when they help the kids learn social, emotional, and intellectual skills while at play.

How about safety? Are all educational toys safe for a toddler? The ideal answer should be Yes, but in reality the answer is Not Always. Toddlers still put objects to their mouths, and toys that may look safe may prove to be choking or ingestion hazards. Here are some tips in making sure that the baby toys you are buying is indeed safe for your toddler to play with:

1. Read the box

Manufacturers often indicate the age recommendation on the box of the toy. Do not overlook this bit of information. Age recommendation does not only tell you if the toy is appropriate for your kid’s age in terms of skill development and play value, but it also gives you an idea on the safety aspects of the toy.

Look for Toddler Cubes labeled to be non-toxic and hygienic.

2. Check for removable or loose parts

Does the toy under consideration have small parts that can be removed by your toddler? Does the toy produce small parts if it is broken? If so, then these toys are not for your child.

Stuffed toys with sewn-own buttons as body parts and other loose accessories are potential choking hazards. Don’t let your toddler play with toys that have loose parts or those with ribbons or cords long enough to be wrapped around the neck.

3. Check for sharp edges and points

Some plastic toys available for toddlers that are flimsy may have sharp edges and points when they break. These plastic toys may also have small parts when they break that are potential choking hazards.

4. Consider product material and toy weight

Just because they are made of plastic doesn’t necessarily mean that the toys are safe. Toys made of hard plastic can break and cause injury to your child.

The toy’s weight is another factor to consider. Ask yourself if the toy’s weight can cause injury if it drops on your child’s head or other body parts.

5. Beware of magnets

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recognized magnets to be the number one hazard for kids in 2007. Small magnets in toys are choking and ingestion hazards. When ingested, the natural reaction between magnets can cause discomfort or injury to a baby’s digestive system. The CPSC says to keep toys with magnets away from children under the age of six.

When it comes to choosing Toddler Soft Toys, buy only those that are well made and safe. Inspect the toy carefully for parts that may cause injury.

There is only so much that a parent can do in choosing a Wooden Toddler Toys. A child left unattended can still get injured with toys that are deemed to be baby-safe. Minimizing the potential hazard is a great start, but nothing beats adult supervision.
